small things {commitment}

small things #43 ... commitment

Now, I know what you are going to say.

"Commitment?  That's not a small thing!"

Even as I typed that heading, I thought to myself, "That big word is a big deal."

Commitment to marriage.
Commitment to parenting.
Commitment to work.
Commitment to school.
Commitment to volunteering.
Commitment to our family.
Commitment to our friends.
Commitment to our God.

Commitment to our commitments.

True, commitment is huge and intimidating and potentially overwhelming.  But our commitments are truly small decisions which over time spell out our devotion and loyalty.  Weekly choices, daily resolutions, moment-by-moment determination to see through to the end what we said "yes" to at the beginning.

Next Monday, VBS takes flight.  Months of planning, phone calls, emails and meetings culminating in a week of faith-filled fun for the kids in our community.

Has it been exhausting and overwhelming at times?
Yes, yes, double yes.

Will it be worth it to see 200 kids play, laughing and praising Jesus?
Yes, yes, yes, triple yes.

Commitment ... a long word inspiring us to hang in there for the long haul.
For a long-lasting blessing.

  1. Commitments are big things, but we keep or blow them in small ways, too. Those follow up decisions. Our attitude. Saying no.

    Great word choice.

  3. What a great lesson... I always tell my kids the little things become the big things. Same goes for us, too.
I'm just now making it over from your SITS day, so congrats on that! And like I said over there, just from your intro I fell like we could be friends in real life! I can't wait to read more... And I'd love for you to follow me back at www.mustardseedsok.blogspot.com
