Time-Warp Wednesday

Welcome to a new addition/edition here at Snapshots:

Time-Warp Wednesday!

I thought it would be fun to share with you some random reminiscing from the Kellum/Nadel archives.  Little snapshots with big stories behind them.

It's amazing to me how one little photo can embody so many memories, feelings and thoughts ... and laughs!  I can look at a photograph and transport myself back to that moment in time.  That's the magic of memories - they are strong and enduring.  Sometimes in spite of our efforts to forget. :)

I hope that you will enjoy a weekly walk down memory lane with me ... if nothing else, you might gain a little insight into why I am who I am!  And have a good giggle, too!

For our first Time-Warp Wednesday I want to share one of my very favorite pictures from my childhood.

circa 1979

On the left is my sister, in the center is my brother and that's me on the right.  This photograph was taken by my Nana (my mom's mom) beside the shed of the house we lived in at the time, just outside of Ouray, Colorado.  We have always referred to this home as, "the green house", but I don't think it's green any longer.  I'm sure my mom has more info about the day this picture was taken as I was only about 4 years old at the time.  But I'm glad my Nana captured it!  This photo hung in my Nana's house forever and I had it framed and on display in my dorm room and it is now in our family room.

I love that we're all just hanging out shirtless and in cowboy hats!  Especially seeing as we aren't a ranching or farming family. :) A wonderful snapshot capturing our childhood ... shirtless and care-free!

I have a number of other memories of this childhood home:  my cousin climbing up a tree and encountering a bee hive and a barbed-wire fence (Ouch!), feeding chickens over at the neighbor's house and stepping on that pesky nail ... in my flip-flops (Zing!), venturing off the beaten path and cutting my flip-flopped foot on a piece of glass sticking out of the ground (Zowie!) and visiting our Nana at her house just across the field from our house ... via the cactus patch (Eek!)  Apparently it was a dangerous & adventurous place to grow up! :)  I'm sure it just made me stronger ... and more wary of bees, nails, glass and cactus!

This childhood training has come in handy as a Mom.  I am quick to point out to Brett any wasp hives we encounter so that he can take care of them.  I rarely scatter rusty nails in our yard and if I do, I make sure the kids are wearing sturdy boots when they go out to play.  I never let the kids go wandering around in fields of glass or hot glowing coals. :)  And I have found that my cactus radar is in good working order ... especially when we all go out hiking.

So ... here's a little proof of how every life experience is for a reason!  To make us better people.  Or at least more cautious! :)

Tune in next Wednesday as we Time-Warp again.  A snapshot of my Aaron's first day home ... when he assured his anxious Mommy that everything was going to be A-Okay!

  2. I love that photo! I remember when I first saw it on your wall, I actually thought it was a greeting card of random kids that you thought were cute. I was amazed to discover it was you, Josh, and Allison!
